Free Guide
A plain guide for Brisbane operators who want a website that works, without the ongoing bill.
Most of your customers won't discover you through your website. They'll hear your name from a mate, spot your ute, or search Google and land on your Google Business listing first. Your website's job comes after that, it's the place they check to answer one question: "are these people real?"
That's genuinely it. It doesn't need to chase clicks, run animations, or funnel anyone anywhere. It needs to load fast, look like a real business, and confirm what the referral already told them.
Traditional agencies build for a different job entirely, one that justifies a monthly retainer ($500–$2,000/month) for "maintenance," "plugin security," and "SEO." That gets you a site that:
If a website needs a monthly bill just to keep standing up straight, something's been built the wrong way round.
A website that just proves you're real doesn't need a database, a login, or ongoing software to run. It's set up once, and it stays exactly as it was left, which turns out to be the whole point.
| Traditional Agency Site | LAB59 Approach |
|---|---|
| Fragile Database: Relies on complex servers and vulnerable software setups. | No Database: Nothing to log into, nothing to exploit, nothing that can silently break. |
| $250–$2,500/mo Retainers: Required just for basic software and plugin updates. | $0/mo: No plugins to update, so nothing to pay someone to update. |
| Security Risk: A common target for database exploits and spam attacks. | Nothing To Attack: No login, no database, barely any attack surface at all. |
| Slow Mobile Loading: Heavy plugin bloat drives potential customers away. | Fast By Default: Loads instantly, because there's nothing weighing it down. |
Simple, on purpose: no dashboards, no plugin updates, no surprise bill when something quietly breaks. You own it outright, and it just works.
Part Two
Before any of the posting or the strategy, there's one job that comes first: making sure the profile is actually yours. Google sometimes creates a basic listing on its own, whether you've claimed it or not, so this step is just about taking ownership of what's already there, or setting it up properly if it isn't.
Search your business name on Google Maps or Google Search first. If a listing pops up, you're claiming it. If nothing shows, you're starting fresh.
Sign in with a Google account you'll keep long term, ideally a business email. Search your name and address, then claim it or add it fresh.
Name, category, address or service area, phone number, opening hours. Keep it accurate. This is the foundation, not the full build-out.
Google confirms you're the real owner, usually by postcard, phone or email. Postcards take five to fourteen days. Once verified, you're live and it's officially yours.
That's it for claiming. No dashboards to learn, no strategy required yet, just ownership. What you do with it from here is next.
Your website answers "are they real?", but it's not what gets you found in the first place. That heavy lifting is done by your Google Business Profile, and for a small operator, it's genuinely the most powerful tool you've got. Best part: you already carry it in your pocket.
No dashboards, no code, no waiting on anyone. Just your phone and the app you already know.
Take a photo of the finished job. Post it to Google Maps in under 30 seconds, no laptop, no login to your website.
Regular, genuine posts signal that you're active and local, which helps you show up when nearby customers search.
Your website links straight through to your live reviews and photos, so anyone checking you out sees the real thing.
No spark graphs, no vanity dashboards. Just a live trail of real work that Google and real customers can both see.
Word of mouth still runs on a Google search. When someone's given your name, checking you out online is usually their very next move, and what they're looking for is proof, not polish.
An agency can write you generic blog posts and stock photography. None of it beats a real photo of a real job, posted by the person who did it. That's not a trick, it's just the truth showing up online.
Prefer not to do it yourself? I can set up and tidy your Google Business Profile for you as an optional extra. Either way, you'll know how it works, so you're not dependent on anyone to keep it going.
